MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — It’s been the best fall tourism season in the Myrtle Beach area in a decade.
Nice weather and the improving national economy are partly credited with the increase in visitors to the Grand Strand, the 60-mile stretch of beaches from Georgetown to the North Carolina state line.
Researchers at Coastal Carolina University report that from Sept. 7 through the middle of last month occupancy was up more than 14 percent compared with the same period last year.
Researcher Taylor Damonte tells The Sun News of Myrtle Beach (https://bit.ly/1tTICeW) it was the strongest fall in the 10 years he has been tracking tourism numbers.
The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce also invested $3 million in a fall tourism campaign that ran longer and reached more markets than in the past.
