WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Worcester woman charged in the fatal stabbing of her live-in boyfriend has been ordered by a judge to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Stephanie Fernandes is charged with manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the slaying of her boyfriend of five years, Andrew Wagner.

Prosecutors say the 31-year-old Fernandes stabbed Wagner at about 11 p.m. Wednesday during an argument. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

She was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, but it was postponed until after her 20-day evaluation.

Fernandes’ lawyer tells The Telegram & Gazette (https://bit.ly/1kQkgwx ) that some preliminary evidence points to self-defense.

A neighbor says the couple had recently moved into the home and planned a summer wedding.
