EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities on Long Island are investigating the circumstances of a fire that killed a 93-year-old woman.
Suffolk County police say the blaze at 55 Grover Lane in East Northport was reported at 9:25 p.m. Thursday.
They say the fire department’s assistant chief, Daniel Hefferman, who lives nearby was on the scene within two minutes.
He and fire Chief Joseph Ervin located the victim near the doorway of her second floor bedroom.
The victim, Alice Woods, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the house at the time.
Authorities say the fire does not appear suspicious.
