COVENTRY, Vt. (AP) - Construction of a solar farm is underway at Vermont’s only active landfill.
The Caledonian Record reports (https://bit.ly/1l6LZuz) the solar farm at the Coventry landfill is expected to produce nearly 3,200 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power 261 homes for an entire year.
The landfill already generates methane that’s converted into electricity.
The developer of the solar farm, Borrego Solar Systems Inc., has worked on more than 1,000 solar power installations, totaling close to 90 megawatts of electricity.
