ESPANOLA, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say deputies were able to track down three suspected burglars in Espanola by just tracing their footsteps. Literally.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports (https://goo.gl/uYIyhp) that Santa Fe County sheriff’s deputies tracked the footprints of the suspects from a burglarized home Tuesday morning and found the men.

According to a probable cause statement, 20-year-old Avigael Munoz admitted to deputies that he and two 17-year-olds broke into the house to steal items they could sell to pay for traffic tickets issued for a seat belt violation.

The report says the suspects took five guitars, a knife, jewelry and some medications.

Munoz was arrested on a number of charges, including burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The teens also were books on burglary.

It was not known if they had attorneys.
