HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police say a 64-year-old Washington state man is dead after a commercial truck crash along Interstate 84 in Hood River, Oregon.

Lt. Gregg Hastings says Melvin Roy Schwark of Lyle, Washington, was driving a 2004 Freightliner tractor cab and pulling an empty container trailer early Friday when the rig gradually drifted left and hit a guardrail. The vehicle kept going into the center median and finally hit a tree. A section of the fallen tree partially blocked one eastbound lane.

Police say Schwark was dead at the scene. Investigators are checking whether he might have suffered a medical emergency. He was driving for J&L Transportation out of Wasco, Oregon.
