HONOLULU (AP) - A 47-year-old man whom police say was set on fire remains in critical condition but stable at a Honolulu hospital.

Police say the man was set on fire Wednesday night by a drinking buddy.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1fUiSeU) reports the 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder but had not been charged as of Thursday night.

Police say the men started drinking beer early in the day on a patio outside the suspect’s home and began to argue.

Police say the suspect poured gasoline on the other man’s head, and despite being restrained by his mother and another person, managed to ignite the liquid with a lighter.

The onlookers rolled the man on the ground and doused him with water from a garden hose.
