YORK, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania man has been held for trial in what authorities are calling a murder-for-hire plot.
Forty-six-year-old Gregory Allen Hess of Seven Valleys is charged in York County with solicitation of criminal homicide and criminal use of a communication facility.
Prosecutors allege that Hess paid a confidential informant $30,000 to kill a male acquaintance of his wife.
Authorities said the informant called police and the would-be target participated in a ruse to convince the defendant that the murder had been committed. The ploy included staged photos of the would-be target tied up in the trunk of a car.
Hess remains in custody without bail. A judge on Friday determined there was enough evidence to allow the case to proceed.
A formal arraignment is set for June 20.
