FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A Fargo man is accused of stealing more than $50,000 in cash and jewelry from the home of a neighbor and family friend.

Charles Carney is charged in Cass County with two counts of felony theft. Police believe the thefts took place over a period of two to three years. Some of the stolen jewelry was tracked to local pawn shops.

The victim’s attorney, Randy Stefanson, tells KFGO news that Carney was a trusted friend who had a key and “carte blanche” access to the property.

Lorelle Moeckel, Carney’s attorney, did not return phone messages.
