SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) - Police in Salisbury evacuated some businesses temporarily after a live hand grenade was found inside a box.

Officers were called to an antique store around 1:30 p.m. Thursday when store employees discovered the grenade in a box brought to the store with some other previously owned items.

Officers evacuated some nearby businesses until the Cabarrus County Bomb Squad arrived.

Police Chief Rory Collins said a member of the bomb squad put the grenade in a secured container and it was taken to the Cabarrus County range to be destroyed.

No injuries were reported.
