KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Kalamazoo police say an officer fatally shot a dog after it bit his leg.

According to a news release sent by the city’s public safety department, the pit bull charged and attacked the officer Thursday evening as he approached a home to investigate an assault complaint.

Police say the officer fired three shots with his handgun.

He was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and was later released.

The department’s operations division and the office of professional standards will investigate the shooting.
