SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) - A former Sheridan probation and parole officer accused of sexual assault has signed a plea agreement that allows him to seek to have the case dismissed, his attorney said.
Chris Yager signed the agreement Wednesday, The Sheridan Press reported Friday (https://tinyurl.com/qgyl6j9). Yager’s attorney, Kevin Kessler, said the agreement allows Yager to present a motion to dismiss the case to the 4th Judicial District Court.
If the court denies the motion, the agreement allows Yager to enter a “conditional plea of guilty” that would allow him to appeal the court’s decision to the state Supreme Court, Kessler said.
Yager pleaded not guilty to a felony sexual assault charge. He was charged in August after a woman he formerly supervised reported that she had had a sexual relationship with Yager, who had been her probation officer. The woman said Yager continued to make advances after she tried to end the relationship.
Wyoming law prohibits romantic relationships between parole officers and their charges, including for a period after that formal relationship ends.
