EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A fire caused by a malfunction in an electrical extension cord has destroyed two houses in Everett, Washington.

Everett Fire Department spokesman Rick Robinson says no one was injured as flames spread from the roof of one home around noon Friday to the neighboring roof.

The arriving battalion chief called in a second alarm to stop the flames from spreading even farther.

Residents of one house were confirmed to be safely out of the home. Firefighters said the other house was vacant because it’s in foreclosure.

Robinson says total damage is estimated at $350,000.
