OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - A former Oxnard commissioner convicted of child sex abuse has been sentenced to 100 years to life in prison.

The Ventura County Star reports (https://bit.ly/1j9MiAw ) 69-year-old William Preston Davis was found guilty April 10 on felony counts including committing lewd acts with a child and unlawful acts with a child under 10. He had pleaded not guilty.

Davis has been a registered sex offender since 1967, and has been convicted of seven sex offenses in California.

He served on the city’s Senior Services Commission since 2009. Oxnard doesn’t require city commission appointees to undergo a criminal background check, but does screen prospective employees and volunteers who work with children.

He was removed from his volunteer post last year.
