BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A guard at the Bridgeport Community Correctional Center is accused of smuggling heroin and marijuana to inmates.

The Connecticut Post reports (https://bit.ly/1j1xHgo ) 44-year-old Joseph Trottman was charged Wednesday with attempt to convey contraband into a correctional facility and attempt to distribute narcotics.

State police say the arrest follows a sting operation by its gang unit that began in January after a tip from an informant.

Police say a woman posing as an inmate’s girlfriend gave Trottman cash and fake heroin to smuggle into the facility. They say Trottman had the marked money on him when he was arrested.

Attempts to reach Trottman for comment Friday morning were unsuccessful. It was unclear if he has hired a lawyer and he has no listed telephone number.
