LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Board of Education has voted to lift the fiscal distress classification for the Mineral Springs School District - but added two more districts to the list of financially troubled schools.

The board agreed Thursday that Mineral Springs can regain local control after a new school board is elected and trained. The 440-student district was taken over by the state education commissioner in May 2013 and the school board was removed.

Also Thursday, the panel voted to place the Lee County and Hector school districts into the fiscal-distress program. Last month, Lee County was also placed under state control because of chronically low academic achievement.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1m6HbGF ), other schools now classified as fiscally distressed include Pulaski County Special, Helena-West Helena and Hughes.
