PLAQUEMINE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge man has been found guilty on two counts of second-degree murder.
The case involved two men killed in 2012. Their bodies were left in an abandoned vehicle in a field in Iberville Parish.
District Attorney Ricky Ward told The Advocate (https://bit.ly/RuWaPm ) it took an Iberville Parish jury 30 minutes Thursday to convict 31-year-old Harry Prater of killing the two. The charges carry mandatory life sentences.
The victims were 38-year-old Ronald A. Harrell of Baton Rouge, and 46-year-old Junius Dedrick of Ventress.
Harrell and Dedrick were found shot to death inside a vehicle abandoned in a field near the Iberville Math, Science and Arts Academy in Plaquemine.
Family members had told authorities they believed Dedrick and Harrell were traveling to Plaquemine to visit one of Dedrick’s cousins.
Assistant District Attorney Tony Clayton said Prater’s motive behind the killings was armed robbery. Clayton said the three men had gone out to clubs together the night before the murders, and Dedrick had been flashing a large wad of cash.
Ward said Prater will be formally sentenced on June 13.
