DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - Jurors in Decatur have convicted a 19-year-old man of murder in a 2011 shooting death.

Delmont E. Thomas was 16 years old when prosecutors say he shot Brian Carney four times in the back of the head. The (Decatur) Herald and Review reports (https://bit.ly/1npkZd9 ) that Thomas’ trial ended Friday with him convicted of first-degree murder.

Thomas faces 45 years to life in prison when he is sentenced July 9 in Macon County court.

Police say the Dec. 14, 2011, death was connected to a drug deal.

Police arrested Thomas the day of the shooting after officers spotted him and two other young men walking away near where a vehicle had struck a pole. Authorities found Carney in the driver’s seat with gunshot wounds to his head.
