MEXICO, N.Y. (AP) - State police say alcohol apparently played a role in a one-vehicle crash that has killed a central New York man and left another in critical condition.
Troopers say 29-year-old Casey Billings of Parish was driving a pick-up truck on state Route 69 around 5:30 a.m. Thursday when he crashed on a curve in the Oswego County town of Mexico, on Lake Ontario 30 miles north of Syracuse.
The truck crossed a ditch, hit utility pole guide wires before hitting two trees and coming to rest in a yard.
Troopers say a passenger, 41-year-old Christopher Billings of Parish, was taken to Oswego Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say their initial investigation has determined alcohol consumption as potential factor in the accident.
