KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Leading academics and others interested in the Middle Ages are expected to gather at Western Michigan University for an annual conference on the subject.

The 49th International Congress on Medieval Studies runs Thursday through Sunday on the school’s campus in Kalamazoo.

Western Michigan says it expects about 3,000 professional academics, students, performers, enthusiasts and independent scholars interested in all things medieval to attend.

The conference is to feature more than 500 sessions devoted to academic papers, panel discussions, workshops and performances.

An exhibit hall is to include dozens of book dealers and other vendors.
