CHICAGO (AP) - A study shows that 72-year-old women were the most likely Chicago voters to cast ballots in recent elections.
A Chicago Board of Election Commissioners report released Wednesday shows Chicago data from the 2012 general election and 2014 primary election in March.
The study also shows that 17-year-old voters were more likely to cast ballots in the March primary election than most voters in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. It was the first time that 17-year-olds could vote in a primary if they turned 18 by the general election in November.
The lowest participation rate was among 21-year-old males.
Commission chairman Langdon Neal says the study confirms a drop-off in participation once people turn 20. He says the new online voter registration beginning in July will boost numbers.
