PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix man driving on a suspended license is accused of manslaughter in the death of his cousin in a high-speed crash.
Bond for 29-year-old Marcos Antonio Payan was set at $15,000 at his initial court appearance Thursday. He doesn’t have an attorney yet.
Phoenix police say Payan was arrested after his station wagon struck two trees and rolled over about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Police say Payan apparently ran a red light at an intersection and his vehicle was going about 80 mph at the time of the accident.
Payan’s cousin was riding in the front passenger seat and was ejected during the rollover. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police say Payan knew his car needed repairs and his driver’s license was suspended about eight years ago.
