CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - A convicted felon accused of exchanging gunfire with Chandler police and then stealing a car has been ordered held without bond.
David Javier Gonzales had his initial court appearance Thursday. He doesn’t have an attorney yet and has a May 15 status conference and May 19 preliminary hearing.
The 25-year-old Mesa man was arrested Tuesday in Phoenix on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful flight from law enforcement, theft of a means of transportation and unlawful possession of a weapon.
After Monday’s shootout, police say Gonzales stole a golf cart and drove it to another apartment complex where he allegedly carjacked a woman’s vehicle.
Authorities say Gonzales was wounded in the shooting and needed to be treated at a hospital before he could be booked into jail.
