DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - A Muslim civil rights organization is seeking a federal probe into a suburban Detroit police stop of a 28-year-old man whose bicycle chain broke as he rode through a city neighborhood.

MLive.com reports (https://bit.ly/1m2UHLm ) that the Council on American-Islamic Relations filed its request Thursday with the Justice Department.

Meanwhile, attorneys for Ali Beydoun say they’re preparing a federal lawsuit against the city of Dearborn, its police chief and eight officers. The lawyers allege excessive force and false arrest.

They say Beydoun was trying to fix the bike chain when officers forced him to the ground and into a squad car about 4:50 a.m. on Dec. 7. Beydoun speaks little English.

The city said in a release Wednesday that Beydoun resisted officers’ instructions “resulting in the necessary use of force.”
