RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Six inmates have filed a federal court lawsuit that claims they were abused by San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies at the West Valley Detention Center.
The Sun newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1fRZjDX ) the suit filed Wednesday accuses the deputies of shocking the inmates with stun guns without provocation, placing shotguns to their heads and subjecting them to other acts of torture including sodomy.
The lawsuit names Sheriff John McMahon, West Valley Detention Center Capt. Jeff Rose and eight deputies at the jail as defendants. Two civilian employees are also named.
The suit seeks $135 million in compensatory and punitive damages.
A plaintiffs’ lawyer says more lawsuits are planned on behalf of additional inmates.
Sheriff’s Department officials did not immediately comment.
