WILTON, Maine (AP) - Police say an 18-year-old high school student has been charged with stealing more than $50,000 in cash and jewelry from a Wilton home.

Chief Heidi Wilcox says Brian Durrell, of New Sharon, is charged with burglary and theft. A second suspect, a juvenile, is also likely to face charges. Both are students at Mount Blue High School in Farmington.

The homeowners reported the theft April 30 after returning from vacation.

Police checked a local jewelry store and discovered some of the items were sold there by the teens. Wilcox tells the Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1kQvP5x ) that Durrell told the store owner that his grandmother died and left him the jewelry.

Durrell remained in jail Wednesday on $10,000 bail and it’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
