PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Department of Transportation is reminding the public that political campaign and ballot-issue signs can’t be placed on state highway rights of way.
Bill Nevin with the department’s legal counsel says signs are showing up along the state’s roadways as the election is nearing. The primary election in South Dakota is June 3.
Nevin says the use of right of way is exclusive of official highway signage. He says all other signs will be removed.
The department says ordinances regulating the sings within towns and cities do not have precedence over state jurisdiction.
