LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police is investigating an alleged use of force violation by Lafayette Parish Correctional Center jailers.

Troop I spokesman Stephen Hammons told The Daily Advertiser (https://bit.ly/RrI958 ) it began an investigation based on a request by Sheriff Mike Neustrom. Hammons on Thursday did not provide a time frame in which the investigation might be complete.

Capt. Kip Judice, a sheriff’s office spokesman, says four correctional center employees were fired in April for violating sheriff’s office policies covering use of force and code of conduct. The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing details of the incident but Judice says four deputies who were assigned to the corrections division were allegedly involved.

Judice says only one inmate was involved in the alleged incident and he is no longer in custody.
