MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - House Speaker Mike Hubbard says he’s filed a complaint with the U.S. attorney’s office, the FBI and the Lee County district attorney over harassing phone calls being used to try to hurt his re-election campaign.

The Auburn Republican says someone recorded his first TV ad and then set up a phone network to call voters repeatedly with the recorded message. He says the same number is called repeatedly to make the voter upset. He said the calls often show up as being from foreign numbers that can’t be traced.

Hubbard said Thursday that he asked for an investigation because the calls don’t have a statement saying who’s paying for them, which is required by law.

People inside and outside Hubbard’s east Alabama district have reported receiving the repeated calls.
