SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (AP) - More than 100 students and staff members have been sickened by a gastrointestinal virus spreading around an Orange County middle school.

Capistrano Unified School District spokesman Alan Trudell says the illness broke out this week Ladera Ranch Middle School.

The Orange County Register reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1ivfrpH ) that about 90 of the school’s 1,360 students fell ill, as well as 20 teachers and two clerical staff members.



Trudell says the symptoms are vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. Students with the symptoms are asked to stay out of school for 48 hours.

Orange County Public Health is investigating the cause of the illness.
