COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Authorities are seeking a 27-year-old Columbia man charged with supplying heroin to a 16-year-old girl who died of a suspected overdose.

The U.S. Attorney’s office filed a criminal complaint Wednesday against Jon Patrick Washington. A warrant was issued for Washington’s arrest.

Columbia police went to the Providence Inn and Suites on April 3 on a report of a suspected heroin overdose death. A male caller said he found an unconscious female in his room, but hung up and was gone when officers arrived.

Federal prosecutors said a confidential informant reported that Washington and another man had supplied the heroin. Washington was questioned at the Columbia police department but was not arrested.

The Boone County medical examiner has not released the official cause of the girl’s death. The motel closed last week.
