MOORINGSPORT, La. (AP) - The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 76-year-old Oil City man has drowned in Caddo Lake after apparently jumping from a dock to retrieve his drifting boat.

Detective Buddy Herring says in a news release that the body of Buddy Ray Craig was recovered just before 10 a.m. Tuesday near the Mooringsport boat launch. Herring says Craig was not wearing a life vest.

Herring says a couple out fishing called deputies after they saw an elderly man getting ready to launch his boat, then saw the empty boat adrift in the lake. They found the man’s shoes, hat and watch on the dock.

Sheriff’s Office diver Frank Edmondson says Craig’s body was found about 15 feet from the dock.

The drowning is still under investigation.
