MARLETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 12-year-old Sanilac County boy who pleaded guilty to reckless discharge of a firearm in the accidental fatal shooting of a friend has received a sentence that includes 30 days in a detention facility.

The Times Herald and WLEW report the boy was ordered Tuesday to serve 10 days in a facility immediately and the rest will be considered following probation.

The boy pleaded guilty last month. His father pleaded guilty Monday to firearm possession by a felon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Eleven-year-old Tyler Dunn died Nov. 23 from a rifle shot in the Marlette Township home of the father and son. Authorities say no adult was home.

The Associated Press isn’t naming the father and son, who also must pay restitution to the victim’s family.
