ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Bernalillo County residents who plan to be out drinking for Cinco de Mayo will be able to use free taxis to get home safely.

Bar and restaurant patrons can reserve a ride through the countywide Tavern Taxi program on Monday.

The program allows residents to reserve a taxi by calling 505-999-1400. Servers or bartenders then call the taxi when a customer is ready to leave.

Taxi Tavern is a joint effort from the Bernalillo County Department of Substance Abuse and the New Mexico Hospitality Retailers Association.

The program was previously offered St. Patrick’s Day.
