PITTSBURGH (AP) - Allegheny Parks have something of a popularity problem, leading visitors to park on the grass - and incur $300 parking tickets.

County executive Rich Fitzgerald wants police to stop issuing the tickets until the eye-popping fines are reduced.

He’s upset that people have received tickets on Mother’s Day and at a Memorial Day event for wounded veterans.

The tickets can reach $370 when court fees are added.

The Allegheny County Council will debate plans this week to cap parking tickets at $50 or $100.

Officials says a zip line, bicycle cafe and kayak rentals have made North Park popular for visitors. That’s where some of the tickets have been issued.
