TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a northern New Jersey man has admitted robbing a bank last December.
Robert Mercedes of East Orange pleaded guilty this week to bank robbery and using a firearm during the commission of crime of violence. He faces several decades in prison when he’s sentenced Sept. 23.
The 24-year-old Mercedes admitted using a gun to rob a PNC Bank branch in Montclair last December. He demanded that bank employees fill a backpack with money, telling them they had “13 seconds” to complete the task.
Mercedes was captured the same day the robbery occurred.
