MIAMI (AP) - A Georgia investment adviser already accused of stealing millions of dollars before vanishing for 18 months is facing new charges in Florida.
Miami federal prosecutors say 47-year-old Aubrey Lee Price of Valdosta, Georgia, sent a letter in June 2012 indicating he would commit suicide by jumping from his boat off Naples, Florida. The letter resulted in the Coast Guard responding unnecessarily to a false distress call, a federal crime.
The charge carries a maximum six-year prison term.
Price is jailed in Georgia awaiting trial for allegedly embezzling $17 million from investors. He is also charged in New York with securities and wire fraud.
Price was arrested last New Year’s Eve on Interstate 95 in Georgia by a sheriff’s deputy who thought his truck’s windows were tinted too dark.
