NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - The former head cashier for the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Group has been spared a prison term for stealing $42,000.
Dewyna Brown of North Brunswick instead was sentenced Friday to five years’ probation. She also must pay restitution and is permanently barred from public employment.
The 38-year-old Brown pleaded guilty April 4 to unlawful taking.
Prosecutors say Brown was employed by the medical group and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She was responsible for handling money received as co-payments from patients and keeping track of it on spreadsheets.
Between 2011 and January 2013, investigators say she routinely stole cash on a daily basis and falsified log sheets to conceal the thefts.
Brown took the cash for her personal use and hid the empty envelopes in her office.
