BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois judge convicted of drug and gun offenses has been assigned to serve his two-year sentence in a Florida prison.
The Belleville News-Democrat reported Saturday (https://bit.ly/1nPKgMc ) that former St. Clair County Judge Michael Cook will serve his sentence at the same location as the ex-probation officer who sold him cocaine.
James Fogarty sold Cook the drugs, which led to the death of another judge at a cabin in Pike County. Fogarty is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Pensacola Federal Prison Camp.
The prison is a minimum-security facility. Its rule book states that both men will likely be eligible to leave the camp for day jobs after a six-month period. Part of Cook’s sentence requires him to pay for the roughly $60,000 cost of his incarceration.
