SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Visitation to Utah’s state parks over the recent Memorial Day weekend topped 113,000.

State Parks Director Fred Hayes says the 113,500 visitors represent an increase of more than 15 percent over last year’s number.

Hayes attributes the jump in visits to improvements at some parks and good water levels at most reservoirs.

Starvation State Park has new cabins and campground facilities. Yuba State Park has a new zipline. Intrepid Trail at Dead Horse Point State Park also has seen improvements.

Hayes says most campgrounds were full and they’re expected to be busy for upcoming holidays.
