HOUMA, La. (AP) - Authorities say a high school teacher and boys track coach accused of having a sexual encounter with a male student has now been booked with intentionally exposing the 16-year-old to the AIDS virus.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter says 37-year-old Derrick Nesby, of New Orleans, was arrested at H.L. Bourgeois High School Wednesday and booked with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

The sheriff said Nesby denies the allegations.

After more investigation Thursday, Larpenter tells The Courier (https://bit.ly/1k88iSD) detectives booked Nesby with intentional exposure to the AIDS virus.

Nesby remains in the Terrebonne jail Friday on bonds totaling $1 million.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
