WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Worcester man charged with playing a role in the slaying and disappearance of a city man 20 years ago has been convicted of first-degree murder.
The Telegram & Gazette (https://bit.ly/1tunmtx ) reports that Matteo Trotto was convicted Friday by a jury in Worcester Superior Court on the second day of deliberations.
Prosecutors say Trotto and two co-defendants lured Harkins out of a city bar in February 1994 and shot him in the head after he got into a car with the suspects, allegedly because he reneged on an agreement to offer false testimony in a drug case against one of them. His body was never found.
Trotto’s lawyer said his client played no role in the slaying.
The 48-year-old Trotto is already in prison on unrelated drug and gun charges.
