BELFAST, Maine (AP) - A Winslow man who taught and coached in Waldo County has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student.

Michael Gagnon was released on $10,000 bail after his court appearance Thursday.

The 46-year-old Gagnon is charged with sexually assaulting the girl while he was an automotive technology instructor at the Waldo County Technical Center in Waldo. Police allege he assaulted the Belfast High School student when he took her on “test drives” of vehicles other students were working on.

The technical center has suspended Gagnon, as has Mount View High School in Thorndike, where he coached softball. He could not be reached.

Prosecutors say the case is scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 6.
