HONOLULU (AP) - A Hawaii health official says hydraulic oil spilled into Honolulu’s Ala Wai Canal.
KITV (https://is.gd/VYk1LP) reports city crews removing debris at Manoa Stream Thursday near the Palolo Junction when an evacuator hose ruptured.
About 10 gallons of hydraulic oil leaked from the excavator, and some of it traveled downstream to the canal.
Department of Health spokeswoman Janice Okubo says city crews recovered as much oil as they could after the excavator leaked.
According to the health department, the unrecovered oil appears to be dissipating.
Officials don’t believe there any health or hazard risks.
