NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - A 21-year-old Del City woman has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder and arson in the death of a Norman man.

Mary Courtney York pleaded guilty earlier this month in the 2013 slaying of 51-year-old Patrick Burton. Prosecutors allege that York and Christopher King fatally shot Burton, then set his home on fire. Burton’s dog was also beaten and died of smoke inhalation.

King was previously sentenced to life in prison.

In court Thursday, Chief District Judge Lori Walkley sentenced York to life in prison with the last 22 years suspended. The Norman Transcript reports (https://bit.ly/1mPBo8b ) York must serve 85 percent of 23 years before becoming parole-eligible.

York’s attorney said she was afraid of King and that drugs were a factor in the case.
