TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Firefighters in Tucson say a 5-year-old boy is in critical condition after nearly drowning in an apartment complex swimming pool.
Tucson Fire spokesman Barrett Baker says firefighters arrived at the complex just around 7:10 p.m. Friday after the boy’s mother pulled him from the pool.
Authorities say the mother had lost sight of the boy and discovered him at the bottom of the pool.
Baker says the boy was blue and unresponsive when he was initially taken out of the water.
He says several bystanders came over to start CPR.
Firefighters performed back blows to expel water from the boy and then took him to a hospital.
Baker says it is unknown how long the boy was under water.
