CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Students in nine West Virginia counties set up lemonade stands as part of an educational initiative that teaches young people how to become entrepreneurs.

The nonprofit group Vision Shared organized Saturday’s Lemonade Day event.

Statewide director Matthew Thompson says participants are taught how to create budgets, set profit-making goals, serve customers, repay investors and give back to the community.

Lemonade stands were set up Saturday in Berkeley, Cabell, Hampshire, Hardy, Kanawha, Mingo, Monongalia, Putnam and Upshur counties.

Lemonade Day was founded in 2007 in Houston.
