DOHA, Qatar (AP) - David Rudisha’s long-awaited return to the track has been put on hold after the Olympic 800-meter champion pulled out of Friday’s Diamond League meeting in Doha with a calf injury.
Organizers confirmed the Kenyan star’s withdrawal in a statement on Saturday.
The world record-holder sustained the injury in training and says in the statement “I’m very disappointed . I know I’ve got a lot of fans there and I’m sorry I cannot compete for them.”
A knee injury cut short Rudisha’s 2013 season after just two races, forcing him to miss out on the defense of his world title.
