BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) - Police in Broken Arrow say a man suspected of child abuse shot and killed himself to end a standoff with officers.

Police say 60-year-old John Warren Murray Jr. shot himself about 3:30 a.m. Saturday - ending a standoff that began about 10 p.m. Friday when officers were called to a home on the city’s south side.

Cpl. Leon Calhoun said in a news release that when officers arrived they found Murray in a vehicle in the driveway of the home and holding a handgun. Calhoun says Murray refused to obey orders to put down the handgun and that officers heard what sounded like a gunshot come from inside the vehicle about 3:30 a.m.

Calhoun says officers then approached the vehicle and found Murray dead.
