HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania school had to be placed under lockdown after police say an armed man was spotted in the area.

The Altoona Mirror (https://bit.ly/1kmegcF) said state police were searching for a man who allegedly threatened to harm himself before running into nearby woods with a weapon.

As a result, Frankstown Elementary School was placed under lockdown for part of Thursday afternoon.

Hollidaysburg Area School District Superintendent Bob Gildea said police told district officials there was a report of a dangerous person in the area of the Hollidaysburg Sportsmen’s Club in Frankstown Township.

Some roads were closed as the search continued into the evening.

Officials said students were taken by bus to a nearby fire hall for parents to get them, or they could be picked up at school.
